World cup's tend to be shit, tight games. 82 was different, but by and large World Cups are pretty shit tournaments.

Its the expectation, the media, the long summer days, even better if you make a game or two, I've done a few and also been in various parts of the world (as its the summer) watching games in bars etc. All your mates, dreaming, wondering, usually some doris on your arm by the end of the night as they love a football tournament

The longer you are in, the greater it is, who gives a fuck how shit the games are

anyone worked out why Newcastle have built a statue and sainted him?

He was there for 4 years of his 54 year career, they slagged him off and wanted him out then build a statue?

By that reckoning we should do one of Allardyce if he passes, they spent that same time at the clubs

Philippe ALBERT later of Newcastle was on the bench for Belgium.

Leo CLIJSTERS played for Belgium that day and later directed the tennis career of his daughter Kim

Didn't do a bad job of recognising the talent a certain Jose Mourinho had and basically kick starting his career either...

Love that.

Can't believe it'll be 7 years since his death in July.

Yes Dudley, he was...

Four league titles, four domestic cups, two European trophies and a fourth place in a World Cup isn't too shabby, Dudley? Not to mention taking Newcastle from bottom of the league to Champions League.

I'm sure he was a nice man and most revered in football circles, but was he really 'all that' as a manager?

1990 World Cup was the business.... we only played one really good game though, the Semi Final, we weren't up to much in the other games really.

Very exciting though and the whole tournament was great.

Much lke the vunted Euro 96. briliant agianst Holland then Germans

Useless against Switzerland, both Spain and Scotland deserved to beat us

The group stages for England group was one of the worst I've ever seen football wise.

6 games and 6 fucking goals?! It was the football equivalent of a Griffin post. Zzzzz....

Then the sneak past BELGUIM!!! And making fucking hard work of a lorryload of Yeboah's...

Gazza was sensational but let's have it right. The right team won the tournament that year.

Euro 96 was a different story...

One boring 1-0 AET doesn't make a great tournament. Anyone outside of England would have switched off after an hour.

I watched that game on a bean bag on the floor.

The most important change in the game of football following Italia 90′ was FIFA’s decision to introduce a new back-pass rule as a direct result of the time-wasting and negative tactics of Italia 90.

This is what Italia 90 is remembered for the whole world over. It was dull. So dull they changed the rules because of it.

As scum said, a great time. Not to be in any way confused with a great tournament.

It was Massing that got sent off for cutting Cannigia in half.

What finish? The one he got against the Argies four years later is one of the finest goals I've ever seen.

The whole tournament was gripped and as it rolled on expectation grew.

But football wise it wasn't great.

The Belgium game was fantastic. As I said they hit the woodwork several times.

Not sure why you would find anyone would find it boring. The whole country was watching that game on the edge of their seats.
